Your domain is your address on the internet, like wordpressgal.com. It’s what people type in to find you. You don’t buy a domain forever; you register it through a domain registrar and renew it, usually once a year. Pick something short, easy to spell and easy to say out loud.

If your domain is your address, hosting is the house. A web host is a company that keeps your website’s files on a computer (called a server) that’s connected to the internet all day, every day. When someone visits your domain, the host serves up your website.

WordPress is free software that runs a huge share of the websites on the internet. It lets you build and update your site, add pages, write blog posts and change photos, without knowing how to code.

One thing that trips people up: WordPress.org is the free software you install on your own hosting, and WordPress.com is a company that hosts it for you, with some limits. We work with WordPress.org sites, so you own everything.

Social media and marketplaces are great places to be found, but you’re renting space on someone else’s property. They can change the rules, the fees or the algorithm at any time. Your own website is the one place online that you control, and it’s where all those other places can point back to.

Yes! That’s exactly what we’re here for. We build websites, and we teach you how to update and maintain them yourself. Not every client wants to learn it all, and that’s fine too. But we believe you can, if you want to.

Three habits go a long way:

  • Keep everything updated: WordPress, your theme and your plugins.
  • Back up regularly, and keep a copy somewhere other than your website.
  • Use strong, unique passwords, and don’t share logins.

We’re big on security and backups, and we’re happy to show you how.

We offer a free 30-minute consultation for your business. Is 30 minutes enough? Not really. But it’s enough to know if we want to work together, and whether we can help you and teach you how to help your business.

Just contact us and tell us a little about your business and what you’d like your website to do. We’ll set up your free consultation and go from there.
